I’m Joni-Leigh, and I’ve been working as a graphic designer, illustrator and fine artist for the past 15 years.
During this time I have co-created branding and marketing material in collaboration with various digital marketing agencies, hotels, guest houses, health & business coaches, finance and investment companies, poets, chefs, jewellery designers, tour guides and operators, musicians, life coaches, writers, business consultants, photographers and animal welfare organisations around the world.
In 2018, I illustrated and self published my first children’s book, called “Henry the Hyena Loses His Giggle” in collaboration with field ranger and gifted storyteller Ian Pletzer. We hope to make a difference in educating children about the importance of wildlife conservation through this series of illustrated children’s books, and by donating a percentage of the proceeds to our chosen charity, “Our Horn Is Not Medicine”. We are currently exploring distribution channels throughout Southern Africa, and our second book in The Safari Series is currently underway.
Finally, with fine art being my first love, I also enjoy the opportunity to participate in exhibitions from time to time and take on painting and illustration commissions. I’m proud to have been included in exhibitions further afield, with the AGOG Gallery in Johannesburg and in Singapore in collaboration with poet Julieta Timane. My art is predominantly inspired by the wilderness and it’s inhabitants, and I strive to capture the expressive, atmospheric and often deeply emotional and personal elements of the subject matter that inspires me. Right now, my first solo exhibition of equestrian paintings is running at De Wetshof Wine Estate in Robertson, and these works will be on display until April 2019.
I sell my art internationally through Saatchi Art, and I have an active profile on international freelance platform Upwork. I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate with entrepreneurs and businesses that inspire me. You'll be able to find more of my work and some of my day to day escapades and inspiration on Instagram and facebook.
