This illustration is a tribute to Rue, the baby rhino. This is his story:
Baby Rue lost his older brother to poachers in 2013. Three years later, his (very well known ) mother was shot by poachers. Upon being shot, she ran, wounded and with Baby Rue by her side, all the way back to her central territory, and died in the riverbed with her horn on.
Baby Rue was found by Our Horn is Not Medicine’s pilot who was out patrolling in the bathawk the next morning. He had been fighting off hyenas and trying to suckle from his mother the whole night.
Luckily he was found, rescued and sent to a place where he now lives in safety.
There are plenty of stories like this. And it’s an important reminder that we all have the power to do something, no matter how small, by casting our vote for the kind of world we want to live in with every purchase or donation we make.
