A moment in the wild, captured in oil.

Some encounters stay with us long after we've left the bush.

A particular animal, a place, a fleeting moment on safari, or something you've witnessed and don't want to forget.

I create original oil paintings from these moments and the stories behind them, working with photography, observation and reference material to capture something of the character, atmosphere and feeling of the encounter.

My wildlife work has been a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year in almost every year since 2018, including winning the Facing Extinction category in 2022 with Anyone Out There?

The Process

01 - We talk

Every commission begins with a conversation. Tell me about the animal, place or experience you'd like to capture, and what makes it meaningful to you. You may already have a particular photograph in mind, or perhaps an idea you'd like to explore.

02 - We find the moment

We'll look through your photographs and references together, considering the subject, environment, composition, light and feeling you're drawn to. Where appropriate, I may also draw on my own field photography and reference material to help bring the painting together.

03 - I paint it

Once we've settled on the direction, I create your original oil painting in my studio. My aim is never just to reproduce a photograph, but to capture something of the character, atmosphere and story behind the moment. I'll share progress with you along the way, from the early stages through to the finished work.

04 - You receive your original

Your completed painting is professionally resolved, signed, varnished and carefully prepared for delivery.
