Dreamscape VI

Original oil on canvas · 77 × 117 cm (30⅜ × 46⅛ in) · 2023

There is a strange kind of nostalgia for places we've never been, landscapes that feel somehow familiar, even when we've never seen them before. The fleeting glimpse of trees through a window, mountains dissolving into mist, the muted colours of a place passing by before we've had time to take it in.

Dreamscape VI grew from this feeling. The desire to pause, to step out of the passing world and become immersed in the natural one. To move beyond looking at a landscape and feel, for a moment, that we belong to it.

Soft, subdued colours and indistinct forms drift across the canvas, somewhere between recognition and recollection. Trees appear and recede. The landscape remains elusive, like a place half-remembered from a dream.

Part of my Dreamscape collection, created in 2023, this painting explores the space between movement and stillness, presence and passing. It asks the viewer to slow down, to look a little longer, to find something of ourselves in the world around us.
